The embodiment of reproductive adaptation strategy of alpine plants in mating system

The embodiment of reproductive adaptation strategy of alpine plants in mating system

Hu Zhengyan

Reproduction is the most basic life process, maintaining or promoting the rich and colorful biodiversity on the earth. The reproductive adaptation strategy of alpine plants plays an important role in its evolution, in which the evolution of mating system is the most important content. However, there are few quantitative studies on reproductive adaptation traits of alpine plants.

Based on this, Hu Zhengyan and others from the biogeography and ecology group of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden took the special plant Rorippa elata in Hengduanshan as the research material. Through the field homogeneous garden control experiment, taking the mating system as the core, they discussed their reproductive adaptation strategies at the population level.

The main research results show that the open pollination seed setting rate of Gracilaria Gracilaria has a significant negative correlation with latitude, while the overwintering survival rate has a significant positive correlation with latitude, that is, there is a trade-off along the latitude gradient between the reproduction and survival of Gracilaria Gracilaria (Fig. 1). Secondly, Gracilaria glauca has a mixed mating system, and it can be divided into three types: self pollination dominant type (self pollination seed setting rate is equivalent to open pollination seed setting rate and significantly higher than outcrossing seed setting rate), intermediate type (there is no significant difference in seed setting rate under the three experimental treatments) and complementary type (open pollination seed setting rate is significantly higher than that under other experimental treatments), The proportion of inbreeding dominant type was the highest (45.5%), followed by intermediate type (39.4%), and finally complementary type (15.1%) (Fig. 2). Finally, the strains of different mixed mating system types of Gracilaria Gracilaria have different degrees of reproductive guarantee, among which the average degree of reproductive guarantee of the strains dominated by selfing is the highest (RA = 0.163 ± 0.016) (Fig. 3).

The research results were published in the 6th issue of biodiversity with the title of mating system and reproductive guarantee of high spinach at different latitudes, and were selected as the cover.
